Independent studies, peer-reviewed publications, institutional reports and awards that relate to RevoBITs and the byte 1 bioprinter. Each entry is a short summary written by us; follow the link for the original.

Studies and publications

  • Type
    Independent round-robin study
    Date:
    2023

Reproducibility of extrusion bioprinting across 12 labs

    Source: Biofabrication 16, 015002; PubMed 37769669

Twelve German academic labs printed with centrally supplied materials and a shared protocol. The authors could not show equivalence of the printed products between sites and attributed the spread to operators and differences in equipment, calling for more process control and automation. byte 1 was not part of this study; it documents the problem byte 1 is designed for.

  • Type
    Peer-reviewed, open access
    Date:
    Open access via PubMed Central

Optical assessment and modelling of extrusion bioprinting with a byte 1 prototype

    Source: PubMed Central, PMC11183084

RevoBITs co-authored a peer-reviewed paper that assesses extrusion bioprinting optically and builds a model of the process, using a byte 1 prototype as the printing platform. It is the primary published description of the byte 1 approach to measuring what happens during a print.

  • Type
    Conference contribution
    Date:
    Conference programme entry

Research using byte 1 inline rheological modules

    Source: Indico conference system (conference4me)

A conference contribution reports research that uses the inline rheological modules of byte 1 to follow material behaviour during printing. It shows the inline measurement being applied in an academic setting outside RevoBITs.

Institutional reports

  • Type
    Institutional report
    Date:
    17 September 2026

University Hospital Erlangen receives the first byte 1

Source: Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery (FAU)

The hospital's news item reports that its Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery was the first institution to receive a byte 1 bioprinter. The department's tissue engineering group studies tumor microenvironments and is a pilot partner featured on our Applications page.

Awards and recognition

  • Type
    Award
    Date:
    2023 winners list

    BioM m4 Award

Source: BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH, Munich

RevoBITs is listed among the winners of the m4 Award, a Bavarian pre-seed competition for biomedical start-up projects run by BioM. The award page lists the winning teams and their projects.

  • Type
    Recognition
    Date:
    2023

    BioTech Bootcamp 2023

    Source: startup-report.de

RevoBITs was among the teams recognised at the BioTech Bootcamp 2023, as reported by startup-report.de. The report covers the participating biotech start-ups and the programme outcome.

Origin

  • Type
    Origin
    Date:
    SFB/TRR 225 news

Founded by SFB/TRR 225 doctoral researchers

Source: Collaborative Research Centre TRR 225 Biofabrication (Würzburg, Erlangen, Bayreuth)

The collaborative research centre reports that RevoBITs was founded by its doctoral researchers. The founders' work at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and the University of Würzburg within TRR 225 is where the inline characterization and multimaterial concepts behind byte 1 originate.
